Protests in Bangkok Thailand

November 29, 2013 Bangkok

A large crowd of protestors have gathered in Bangkok to demand the current prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to step down. This crowd is being led by a man named Suthep Thaugsuban. They’ve declared that on monday the 1 December 2013, they will seize all government agencies to paralyze the government and force it to give in.

So what really is happening in Bangkok?

The people of Thailand for long have detested anyone who even vaguely tries to challenge the monarchy. It is simple, they love the king and never would want it any other way. One man who was becoming increasingly popular and with different views was the ousted politician Taksin Shinawatra. The current prime minister is his younger sister. People now began to dislike her government mainly because they think she is a proxy and the government is being run or influenced by Taksin himself.

Is it safe to go to Thailand?

In spite of the protests in Bangkok, its absolutely safe to be in Thailand and to come here. However, Bangkok could get rough on Monday. If you are elsewhere in Thailand, nothing changes, there are no issues. Avoid Bangkok streets for a while and things will return to normal. Most of Thailand including Bangkok was largely peaceful until now.
